More than 600 people poured into the Holiday Inn by the Bay's ballroom this afternoon for the 24th annual Chocolate Lovers' Fling.
The always popular event is a benefit for Sexual Assault Response Services of Southern Maine and offers up sinfully delicious samples of cocoa goodness from 20 local restaurants and chocolatiers.
Once again the lovely Kim Block, of WGME-13, served as the event's emcee. She's pictured here with Cyndi Amato, who is the executive director of SARSM.
A panel of celebrity judges conducted a blind tasting of the chocolate creations and here are the results:
Best Brownie: The Green Elephant's vegan brownie
Best Candy Fudge: York County Community College's chocolate toffee coyote crunch
Best Cake: Cinque Terre/Vignola's mocha toffee truffle cake
Best Cheesecake: Maine Gourmet Chocolate's cheesecake bomb
Best Mousse: Chocolate Falls in Maine's chocolate mousse cups
Best Truffle: Dean's Sweets' raspberry truffle
Best Speciality Item: The Green Elephant's chocolate Thai rice pudding
Best Pie/Pastry: The Great Lost Bear's Snickers pie
Best Torte: Bar of Chocolate's Bocca Negra
President's Award: York County Community College's chocolate toffee coyote crunch
Best Presentation: Yummy Tummy Bakery & Chocolates' Nana's needhams
The celebrities weren't the only ones who got to vote; all the attendees had a chance to submit a ballot too. And when the People's Choice votes were tallied Bella Cheesecakes came out on top with its s'mores cheesecake. Here's the man behind Bella Cheesecakes, Anthony Dominicus, with his wife, Sara Dominicus, and his sister, Deana Dominicus.
Congratulations to all the winners!
I'll have more photos and more details from the chocolate-drenched party in next weekend's Scene & Heard section of the Maine Sunday Telegram.
