The University of Maine named former Black Bears All-American Lynn Coutts as its new head softball coach today.
Coutts, 46, who lives in Scarborough with her husband Mike Coutts, the Scarborough High head baseball coach, said she plans to commute to her job, occasionally staying with friends in the Orono area.
Coutts, from Shawville, Quebec, was a standout pitcher for the Black Bears from 1983-87. Since then, she has been involved in softball, including a stint as a UMaine assistant, 1990 to 1994.
Mike and Lynn Coutts are also part of the ownership group of Frozen Ropes Training Center in Portland.
