University of Maine athletic director Steve Abbott announced Friday that the Black Bears have applied to host a NCAA football playoff game, if Maine makes it to the post-season.

Maine has never hosted a football playoff game.

In other news, Bowdoin College has won its NCAA tournament first-round match Friday, defeating Baruch 25-19, 25-14, 25-27, 25-16. The Polar Bears will play Saturday at 3:30 p.m. against UMass-Boston, a team that beat Bowdoin at the start of the season.
