Mike McDevitt, the women's coach at St. Joseph's College, was on hand for the night session of the Eastern Class A girls' quarterfinals at the Augusta Civic Center.

Asked if he was looking at anyone in particular, he said, "Just taking in as many games as possible."

THE BRUNSWICK girls were in a good mood entering their game against Cony, a team that beat the No. 5 Dragons twice during the regular season.

During warm-ups, some of the Brunswick players were singing along as the Cony High band played, "Hey Baby."

THE FIRST two games of the Eastern Class A girls' tournament featured a couple Battle of the Bands. Mt. Ararat was strong, but Hampden Academy took top honors, especially with its version of MGMT's "Kids."

Paul Vachon, the former Cony High coach who led the Rams to seven Class A state championships, held court in his usual seat – up in the left corner of the Augusta Civic Center behind the home bench.

ART WARREN, who coached at Gardiner during the 1970s, sat court side as the No. 6 Tigers played No. 3 Presque Isle in their first Eastern Class B quarterfinal at the Bangor Auditorium. Until two years ago, Gardiner played in the Eastern Class A tournament
