Minutes after top-ranked McAuley beat No. 8 Westbrook 41-23 in a slowdown game, Coach Bill Goodman was already looked ahead to Wednesday's 7:30 p.m. Western Class A semifinal with Windham.

"They got a very good player,'' said Goodman. "They're a very good team; we're going to have to bring our very best to beat them. They're the real deal.''

As is Windham guard Meghan Gribbin. She was the leading scorer and assist maker in the SMAA this season and showed all her skills in Windham's quarterfinal win over Deering.

"We've got to stop Gribbin,'' said McAuley sophomore point guard Allie Clement.

Paul Betit is an Augusta native and graduate of the University of Maine.
