Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, who is up for reelection next year, has revamped her official Senate web site.
The cost to taxpayers was $18,000, with the money coming from Snowe’s official Senate account that pays for personnel and office equipment costs.(Updated at 8:30 p.m. Monday: Spending Senate office account funds in this manner is a normal expense for many lawmakers, Snowe's office notes)
Snowe’s web site had not been overhauled for at least five years, a spokeswoman for the senator said. The new web site aims to make it easier for Mainers to access information about what the senator is up to and about federal programs and includes links to social media such as Facebook and online forms to arrange constituent meetings with Snowe and request flags that have been flown over the Capitol. It also contains much more video content.
“We hope the upgraded site will serve Mainers more effectively…helping them to quickly find the answers they are searching for when they visit the senator’s virtual office,” Snowe’s spokeswoman said.
