Democrat Rosa Scarcelli is hosting a fundraiser next week for Rep. Mike Michaud, D-2nd district.
Scarcelli is an affordable housing businesswoman and former Democratic primary gubernatorial candidate, and she doesn’t rule out a U.S. Senate run in 2012 against GOP Sen. Olympia Snowe.
Scarcelli said in an interview today that one of her political strengths is fundraising – noting she helped raise money for Barack Obama’s 2008 camapaign - and that she intends to assist Maine Democrats and play a role in President Obama’s reelection campaign regardless of her own possible political future.
Peter Chandler, Michaud’s chief of staff, said that “it is tough raising money in Maine’s second district. We welcome the opportunity whenever anyone outside the district in the 1st district is willing to do something for us.”
The reception will be next Wednesday, April 20, at Scarcelli’s home, Chandler said. The price of admission ranges from $250 to $2,500.
Earlier this year, Scarcelli gained a measure of unwanted political notoriety when her husband
Thom Rhoads admitted to being one of those behind the so-called Cutler Files web site that criticized 2010 independent gubernatorial candidate Eliot Cutler – though Rhoads and Scarcelli say she had no idea that he was involved with the web site.
