A full Senate vote on U.S. District Court nominee Nancy Torresen is imminent, according to Sen. Olympia Snowe’s office.
Snowe has been informed Senate leaders that the full Senate is expected to vote on Torresen’s nomination in the next two weeks, according to Snowe's office.
The Senate Judiciary Committee in May cleared Torresen for a floor vote by a unanimous, bipartisan voice vote. Torresen has the support of both Snowe and GOP Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, both of whom spoke in her favor at a judiciary committee hearing May 4.
Torresen was nominated by President Obama in early March to fill the seat being vacated by Judge D. Brock Hornby. Hornby, who was nominated in 1991 by President George H.W. Bush, went on senior status last year but continues to handle a full caseload.
“Nancy brings a critical depth and breadth of experience to this nomination as she has practiced law for 24 years across a range of roles and responsibilities,” Snowe said today in a statement. “I look forward to the confirmation vote, sooner rather than later, and remain confident she will serve the people of Maine with integrity and excellence.”
