Beer fans don't simply swig - they take time to appreciate what they're drinking. Usually, anyway. Beer connoisseurs can explore the offerings of local breweries with the Maine Beer Series beginning at Frontier Cafe, Cinema and Gallery in Brunswick.
The series kicks off 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday with Oxbow Brewing Company, an American farmhouse brewery in Newcastle. Oxbow specializes in traditional Belgian farmhouse beers and the Thursday-night tasting will include some limited barrel-aged beers. That's limited, meaning attendees can sample the beers before they're gone for good. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at www.explorefrontier.com
