ORONO — Maine lost 3-0 to Albany in tonight's home opener.

The offense never gained much traction. Former Portland High standout Chris Treister got the nod in the second half, and was able to gain some momentum with the offense.

Still, the team never really got within field goal range, and Albany's 21-yarder from the first quarter stood.

Said Treister: "They weren't doing anything crazy. They didn't have any magical scheme that was outsmarting us. We needed to stick to the basics, communicate up front and get the job done. Unfortunately they did it better than us."

Said Maine Coach Jack Cosgrove: "You saw it. Albany played a very, very good, solid football game. (They're an) excellent, hard nosed crew. We didn't make some plays. We didn't respond the way I thought we could. i thought we were better equipped there than we turned out being today. It's a team thing."

Next up: Maine at Monmouth, Sept. 10
