Republican Charlie Summers has unveiled his first television ad in the U.S. Senate general election campaign.
The 30-second ad is intended to introduce, or re-introduce, Summers. Unlike the independent ads aired on his behalf in recent weeks, there's no mention of his opponents.
The ad will begin running this week in the 2nd Congresisonal District, according to a blog post by former Republican Maine Sen. Phil Harriman. No word yet on what Summers is spending on it.
Summers' ad is the first by any of the candidates in the Senate race since the June primaries. (The others have been by independent outside groups.) However, expect more ads soon now that Labor Day has passed and there are about eight weeks left in the campaign.
Independent Angus King clearly has raised enough money to buy some TV time. It's not clear if or when Democrat Cynthia Dill will hit the airwaves. Three other independents in the race, Andrew Ian Dodge, Danny Dalton and Steve Woods, aren't expected to run ads without an infusion of cash.
