As of this morning, the outside of the space was still covered in brown paper. But by 10 a.m. Saturday morning, owners Karen Burke of Cape Elizabeth and Annie Talmage of Kennebunkport will be ready to reveal Anniebells, the newest addition to Commercial Street.

June 2 is the official opening for the 100 Commercial Street, Portland shop specializing in home decor. According to Anniebells consultant Sarah Cotsen, shoppers can expect to find items for every room in the house, including textiles, decor and dining and entertainment accessories. Anniebells will not sell furniture. The store's website is "coming soon" but will eventually be found here.
"One thing that's special is that the owners hand-select all of their items globally and locally," Cotsen said.

Last winter, the Commercial Street space was the site of the POP pop-up store. According to Cotsen, the new owners did significant renovations on the space.
Talmage also has an Anniebells location at Dock Square in Kennebunkport, which began as a flower shop and now also offers hand-picked items for the home.

According to Cotsen, Burke and Talmage wanted their new endeavor to be part of the vibrant atmosphere of Portland's Old Port and waterfront.
"It seems like there's a lot of energy happening down at the waterfront, especially in the retail area," Cotsen said, "and they wanted to be part of that."
Anniebells in Portland will be open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
