In case you missed either of these, a quick reminder about a pair of biking events that only come around once a year and are definitely worth attending:
Friday is Bike to Work Day, the culmination of the annual Bike to Work Week (Which happens to be part of Bike to Work Month, celebrated throughout May. Got that?) Plan to escape the office a little early and get out to the celebration at Bug Light Park in South Portland between 4 and 5 p.m.
Bikers who show up will get a free Maine Lighthouse Ride T-shirt, socks from the Bicycle Coalition of Maine and pizza. Everyone will be welcomed by SoPo Mayor Patti Smith.
If you're planning to head to SoPo from Portland you can obviously ride the East Coast Green Way to your destination. But you also have the option of going by water thanks to a free water taxi shuttle from the Casco Bay Ferry Terminal in Portland to the Bug Light Boat Launch.
Later on Friday it's the Girls and Gears night at Gorham Bike & Ski. It's from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Congress Street location and it's a fundraiser for the Maine Cancer Foundation. Plan on seeing some bike fashion, drinking some wine and being entertained by host Lori Voornas. Read more about the $15 event in one of my previous blogs.Tweet
