Bike racing fans will be focused on yet another Tour de France beginning on Saturday, but before the competitors take off from the finish line riders in southern Maine can get a behind-the-scenes look at the Tour from author/photographer Mark Johnson.

Johnson, who embedded with Team Garmin-Cervelo for the 2011 season, will be at CycleMania Thursday at 6:30 p.m. to talk about "Argyle Armada: Behind the Scenes of the Pro Cycling Life." The book offers an unprecedented look inside the sport, from winter training camp to stage victories in the Tour de France.
Members of Portland Velo Club and other interested cycling fans can RSVP for the event on Facebook.

According to CycleManie co-owner David Brink, Johnson is just back from Giro d'Italia, where he saw Garmin-Baracuda racer Ryder Hesjedal win. He's covered cycling as a writer and photographer since the 1980s and has also cycled across the U.S. twice. His book is available in bookstores, at bike shops and online.
"He is promising an updated inside look at the team with photography and stories not featured in the book," Brink said.
All are welcome to attend.
