Mainers who love local foods and practice sustainability anxiously await the weekend of the annual Common Ground Fair.
And once again, those who love to pedal are also getting into the act.
Thanks to the Bicycle Coalition of Maine, bike valet parking will once again be offered at the fair, which runs Friday through Sunday. Doors at the Unity Fairgrounds open at 9 a.m. for crafts, food, livestock and other fun.
BCM has been teaming with the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association since 1998 in an attempt to help relieve traffic congestion for fair attendees. Biking to the fair also cuts down on air pollution.
Upon arrival, cyclists should go to the North Gate where volunteers will park your bike and watch over it until 6 p.m. If you live too far away to bike, park at one of the designated Park-and-Pedal spots (see map), saddle up and follow the signs that mark the route to the fair. In addition to the perk of rolling right through the gate, you'll also get $2 off admission.
