Families looking to get their children safely into biking can take part in the Bike Safety Rodeo hosted June 17 by St. Peter's Episcopal Church in East Deering.
In addition to safe cycling instruction thanks to the Bicycle Coalition of Maine there will be plenty of food and fun during the event from 4 to 6 p.m.
According to Rev. Kelly Moughty, the idea for the rodeo stemmed from visits by the Bike and Build program which annually stops in Portland before embarking on a two-plus-month ride that ends in Santa Barbara, Calif. The goal is to help spread the word about cycling safety by checking helmets and bikes and allowing kids to pedal through a traffic skills course.
