Bikes aren't just about exercise or getting the family together for a fun ride. For the college students, grad students and recent graduates participating in Climate Summer, bikes are about practicing what you preach when it comes to sustainability.
Climate Summer participants travel around New England by bicycle, connecting with community members who are addressing fossil fuel issues and attempting to come up with solutions.
Folks who head up to the Eastern Prom in Portland Wednesday for the fireworks and festivities will see six members from Climate Summer's Maine team as they provide valet parking at Fort Allen Park. They'll be there from 3 to 11 p.m. in matches shirts and with trailers filled with their equipment.
The group will have made the 20-mile trek up from Biddeford and will be in the Portland area until July 8. From there they'll head on to Lewiston/Auburn (July 8-15), Belfast (July 16-22), Rockland (July 22-29), Cumberland (July 29-Aug. 5) and York (Aug. 5-12).
If you see them in any of these towns be sure to say hi and listen to what they have to say. They're trying to build a better future for everyone.Tweet
