Beauty abounds in too many Maine towns to count during the summer months. But what will make Rockland particularly gorgeous on Saturday will be the hundreds of colorful cycling jerseys rolling along country roads, past lighthouses and along the spectacular coast.

The 11th version of the Maine Lobster Ride & Roll takes place in the coastal town July 21, thanks to the Bicycle Coalition of Maine. And if you do only one ride this summer, this one should be it.

With distances of 16, 30, 50 and 100 miles, there's a ride for anyone who pedals. The event kicks off at 8 a.m. and all routes are fully supported by volunteers. Lobster rolls await all riders at the finish line (with alternatives for those who don't think lobster is the best food in the world).

Registration for the Lobster Ride is currently open on line and riders can register the morning of the event. Participants receive the famous Lobster Ride bike socks and admission to local museums free with registration. Fees are $75 for BCM members and $95 for non-members. There's a $10 discount for senior riders and those age 12 to 17 ride for $35 (12 and under is free).

Proceeds from the Lobster Ride & Roll help the non-profit BCM keep doing its thing to make cycling safe in Maine.
