Another edition of the Maine Lighthouse Ride took place on Saturday with about 700 cyclists participating. Although the day started a bit dreary and foggy, the sun was shining by the team many of the 40-milers rolled to the finish at Southern Maine Community College.

Here are a few examples of some of the views along the way.

The start was in view of Spring Point Light, the first of the lighthouses on the 40-mile route.

Andy Singer has a thing for cycling. The cartoonist has a whole series of humorous sketches focused on bikes and the people who ride them.

I particularly like this one:

Click on the cartoon or this link for more from Singer and put a few laughs in your Friday.

Throughout the history of autos and teenage boys, there has been many a dream about a candy apple red ride. A fortunate cyclist in Portland accomplished that dream on two wheels.

This shiny beauty was seen parked near the Corner Room Thursday, waiting patiently for its owner to return, saddle up and pedal off in style.

As the saying goes, "If it's old school then it's in." And that sure does hold true for bikes.

Take this broken in beauty for example. She's retro to the max and apparently loved enough that her owner took extra precautions to make sure she wasn't going anywhere. Check out how the handlebars are spun around so the front wheel goes through the bike rack from the opposite side.

Can't say as I blame the owner. Not with a sweet basket and fenders like that.

You can always count on the Nickelodeon to have a great selection of movies playing. And if you ride to the theater, like this bike's owner did, you don't have to worry about parking.

Pedal to the theater on a Tuesday and you can also take advantage of $5 tickets for all shows, all day. And since you've exercised, why not splurge on some popcorn.
