GOP fund-raising reports

The latest fund-raising reports in the 1st District congressional race had to be filed by midnight last night. I'll be sorting through them today and writing a story for tomorrow's newspaper, but first I wanted to post some of the key numbers.

In the Republican contest, Dean Scontras has raised more money than Charlie Summers, but he's also spent more, and Summers has more remaining.

Total money raised by March 31:
Scontras - $235,475
Summers - $182,698

Money raised between January and March:
Scontras - $76,897
Summers - $69,016

Cash on hand on April 1:
Summers - $106,240
Scontras - $50,184

This comes with the caveat that the two campaigns may be barred from spending some of the cash they have on hand until the general election.

I'll have more in a few minutes on the Democrats.

Matt Wickenheiser has been at the Press Herald for six years. Wickenheiser is a native of Madawaska and a 1994 graduate of the University of Maine. He thinks his first politcal memory is of waving to First Lady Rosalyn Carter.
