Through a frightening turn of events, I was trapped at home yesterday and spent a large part of the day on my couch watching approximately 8,000 episodes of the  Real Housewives (Orange County, New Jersey, Beverly Hills, Atlanta, Miami, etc.) on Bravo. I spent the first three hours working through the despair associated with the fact that I was spending a sunny summer Sunday on my couch with my cat watching reality TV. But then, I started to really think about the growing power of social TV. I'll have a post for you this week on that topic, but for now I'm going to continue to embrace my new and growing obsession with the Housewives. I actually did several hours worth of research on the Housewives franchise, which is possibly the most embarrassing fact I've ever put in writing.

And, damn, those women can tweet. And, damn, those women are boring (on Twitter). At least half of the "entertainment value" of the Housewives, as far as I can tell, has to be the manic level of insanity that dominates every episode. It really does suck you in. I mean, I did watch 8,000 episodes, so I speak from experience.

This definitely does not carry over to their Twitter feeds. They all just seem tedious and vapid on Twitter. With that said, they also each have hundreds-of-thousands of followers that rabidly interact with them daily. So, although you may believe the Housewives represent the death of American culture—and I might agree with you—there is no denying their power on Twitter and other social media channels. From a business standpoint, this all translates into booming ratings for Bravo, not to mention all of the associated appearances and spin-off shows. Most important, it engenders tremendous loyalty from their fans. All of this results in lots of money for Bravo. Big bucks.

So, what do I know? As far as I could tell, I found all of their Twitter feeds crushingly boring. But, obviously there are literally millions who would disagree with me. Maybe I'm not their target demographic? I just wish they would migrate some of their table-flipping and throwing-glasses-of-wine-at-each-other over to their Twitter feeds. That's all I'm saying.

On a side-note, I've now also developed a big crush on Andy Cohen (@BravoAndy). He's the guy at Bravo you can thank for all of this nonsense. Does anyone know him? Sorry, I digress ...

What follows are some of my favorites tweets (and, that's kind of a stretch) that document the best of the Housewives—including @bravoandy of course.

It's also important to note that one of the Housewives, @teresa_giudice, last week was the recipient of a 39-count federal fraud indictment. So, there was lots of chatter about that, to say the least.
