Tonight's question was: "If you had to use three words to describe a tweetup, what would they be?"
"Drinks. Smiles. New Friends." - Ashely Rutherford
"I need five words — Fashion. Social. New faces. Drinks." - Abbie McGilvery
"Mood lighting. Beer. Boys." - Jessie Pinkham
A gathering of users brought together via Twitter.
A monthly, formally organized Tweetup, Maine Tweetup (#metweetup), has been taking place in Portland for years. The month of December was without a #metweetup and I regretfully missed the January Tweetup at Hunt and Alpine @huntandalpine. This all made me very sad and certainly contributed to the depressing nature of this dreadful winter. Needless to say, I was very happy to be in attendance at the February #metweetup last night at the newly renovated Top of the East. The turnout was incredible and the kind staff at The Westin Portland Harborview provided us with loads of delicious snacks. And, of course, there were drinks. Lots of drinks for some people. There may have even been some drunk tweeting. But, I'm not going to go there. I'm just not.
It was great to see some old friends and make some new ones. I was especially happy to see Jaica Kinsman @jakks. I hadn't seen her in ages. Jaica was personally responsible for my introduction to Twitter. I'm sure there are now lots of people on Twitter who are cursing her for having me inflicted upon them. Be nice. There was no way for her to know what I would become.
I asked some questions, ate a bunch of free food, and Joan Crocker @joanwoodbrey strong-armed me into taking her photo. Again. You do not want to get on the wrong side of Joan when it comes to her photograph. I speak from experience. I left relatively early because my arm really hurt after my run-in with Joan and Meredith Finn @missbumptious was boring me to death with her endless chatter about Twitter erotica. With that said, all-in-all it was a very entertaining evening.
Another big thank you to The Westin Portland Harborview and the staff at the Top of the East for hosting us this month. You should go there. They have good food, a great staff, a huge bar with lots of lounge seating, and the best view in Portland. Easy.
Hope to see you next month! Tweet. Tweet.
