Back in April, who figured that home runs by David Ortiz and Jed Lowrie (two) would propel the Red Sox to a win over Seattle?
Ortiz was in a horrible slump and there were whispers (okay, there shouts) that Ortiz was finished. Now he has 30 home runs and 91 RBI.
Lowrie sick with mononucleosis in the spring. That and his sore wrist have kept Lowrie out of the loop for 1 1/2 seasons. But there was Lowrie hitting two homers, giving him six in 120 at-bats.
AL East standings after the Yankees win Tuesday: New York 88-57; Tampa Bay 87-57 (0.5 back); Boston 81-64 (7 back).
Today's game Boston game features two former Sea Dogs: Clay Buchholz (15-7) vs. David Pauley (2-7). New York has Phil Hughes (16-7) against the Rays' James Shields (13-12).
