David Ortiz and Josh Reddick homered in Boston's 6-1 win over Baltimore. But Tampa Bay beat the Yankees 7-2. The Rays (90-61) still lead the Red Sox (84-68) by 6.5 games, and Tampa Bay's magic number is now five.
In Boston's win, Ryan Kalish got his 10th double. Kalish batted .213 through August with a .583 OPS (combined on-base percentage and slugging average). In September, Kalish is hitting .267 with an .830 OPS.
Texas is headed to the playoffs, even with Josh Hamilton on the disabled list. Former Sea Dogs outfielder David Murphy is filling in well, batting .364 in September. See the story on Murphy in mlb.com.
