The Red Sox have already begun making moves, taking pitchers Robert Manuel and Rich Hill and catchers Kevin Cash and Dusty Brown off the 40-man roster. The roster is now at 37, with four more players (Youkilis, Ellsbury, Cameron and Tazawa) set to come off the 60-day disabled list. That makes 41, although the list includes the soon-to-be-retired Mike Lowell.
Here is Boston's current 40ish-man roster. The list includes soon-to-be free agents Victor Martinez, Adrian Beltre, Jason Varitek and Felipe Lopez.
STARTERS: Josh Beckett, Clay Buchholz, Felix Doubront, John Lackey, Jon Lester, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Junichi Tazawa, Tim Wakefield.
RELIEVERS: Scott Atchison, Daniel Bard, Michael Bowden, Robert Coello, Matt Fox, Hidecki Okajima, Jonathan Papelbon, Dustin Richardson.
CATCHERS: Victor Martinez, Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Jason Varitek, Mark Wagner.
INFIELDERS: Lars Anderson, Adrian Beltre, Bill Hall, Jose Iglesias, Felipe Lopez, Mike Lowell, Jed Lowrie, Yamaico Navarro, Eric Patterson, Dustin Pedroia, Marco Scutaro, Kevin Youkilis.
OUTFIELDERS: Mike Cameron, J.D. Drew, Jacoby Ellsbury, Ryan Kalish, Darnell McDonald, Daniel Nava, Josh Reddick.
