Good morning from Fenway Park where the riding lawn mowers are out on the field, and press box workers are making last-minute arrangements.
But they haven't made the coffee yet. Really. I'm not kidding. I will try to get through this.
The one bit of news that leaked in last night is that Alfredo Aceves will be called up to replace reliever Matt Albers (sore muscle behind his shoulder).
Aceves was scratched from his start Thursday night in Pawtucket.
Today's pitching match-up will feature John Lackey vs. Phil Hughes. The Yankees have a career .784 OPS against Lackey (only the Rangers have a better OPS against Lackey, among American League teams, and we've seen how Lackey fared against Texas).
Meanwhile, Hughes struggled in his last start (5 ER, 4 IP) and there was concern about his velocity. We will be keeping on eye on the radar gun readings.
One leftover note from the Sea Dogs' 4-3 win Thursday night. Che-Hsuan Lin proved a solid lead-off batter. He saw 11 pitches in his first at-bat, before flying out. He later walked on an 8-pitch at-bat. Lin also tripled and scored the winning run.
Among the interesting notes from around the minor leagues was Anthony Rizzo's Triple-A debut for Tuscon (2-for-7 with 4 RBI).
Also, Red Sox outfield prospect Bryce Bentz, a supplemental-round pick last year, hit a grand slam for Greenville.
I'll be checking about more with blogs and tweets (ClearTheBases).
But not before I find some COFFEE.
