Update to Dogs line-up below: Chiang in for Dening.

Red Sox medical director Dr. Tom Gill issued the following statement on Daisuke Matsuzaka:

“Daisuke experienced tightness in his elbow during his last start.  His examination is consistent with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament, and strain to his common flexor mass.  An MRI was obtained which confirmed these exam findings.  He will be re-examined in two weeks.”

So Dice-K is shut down for two weeks at the least. Factor in two weeks to get his arm ready after that and that means he is gone for a month - best case scenario.

Both the Red Sox and Sea Dogs are hoping to play tonight in soggy New England. As usual, Alex Hassan is in the lineup in left field for Portland. He is batting .374. He has also walked 24 times.

Of Hassan's 14 strikeouts, only two have been on called third strikes. Thanks to scorekeeper Thom Hinton for that fact.

Now for the line-ups:

Red Sox: Ellsbury, Pedroia, Gonzalez, Youkilis, Ortiz, Lowrie, Cameron (RF), Crawford, Saltalamacchia. (Buchholz P)

Sea Dogs: Lin CF, Hassan LF, Lavarnway C, Federowicz DH, Middlebrooks 3B, Padron 1B, Tejeda 2B, Hee SS, Chiang RF. (Lee P).
