The Red Sox and Alfredo Aceves (1-0, 2.43) visit the Tigers today. While Boston has to be concerned with Tigers starter Max Scherzer (6-1, 2.98), the Red Sox might be seeing a hot lefty out of the bullpen - Charlie Furbush.
Furbush, from South Portland, was called up to the Tigers last week. He made his debut Monday, collecting the win with 3 2/3 innings of scoreless, 2-hit relief.
The Red Sox will have a scouting report on Furbush, who struggled against Triple-A Pawtucket on May 2 (1 2/3 IP, 5 ER).
Meanwhile, the Portland Sea Dogs (13-29) lost another one, despite a strong start by Alex Wilson (1.89 ERA in his last six starts). Wilson, who has been in Portland almost a year, looks ready for Triple-A. See the Press Herald story.
Another pitching prospect, Drake Britton, picked up his fifth loss (now 1-5), allowing 2 runs over 4 innings for Salem. His ERA dropped to 6.37 ... Reynaldo Rodriguez moved from first base to left field. Rodriguez (.311) hit his seventh home run.
Greenville first baseman Miles Head (.331) was 3-for-5.
Former Sea Dogs pitcher Casey Kelly (3.83) rebounded from his worst start for Double-A San Antonio (5 IP, 7 ER) to record his best of the season (6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K).
The Sea Dogs play at 6 p.m. today. Gates open at 4:30 - free Kevin Youkilis bobblehead dolls to the first 1,000 fans.
