According media reports out of New York, Yankees reliever Joba Chamberlain has a torn ligament in his elbow and will need Tommy John surgery.
Elsewhere on the injury front, the Red Sox are awaiting news of Dustin Pedroia’s knee check-up in Boston this afternoon … and Jed Lowrie is back in the lineup at shortstop. Marco Scutaro will play second base.
In Portland, the skies are threatening (but any rain is expected to be out of here well before game time).
Third baseman Will Middlebrooks is the DH tonight for the Sea Dogs, after sitting out Wednesday’s game. Catcher Tim Federowicz is taking the day off.

Pawtucket already played today, losing to Norfolk 4-2. Daniel Nava went 4-for-4. Felix Doubront took the loss: 5 1/3 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 2 K. Doubront gave up a hit, walk and two runs in the sixth.
