The Sea Dogs may have the worst record in the Eastern League, but Portland does feature some individual talent. Five players were named to play in the Eastern League All-Star Game on July 13 in Manchester, N.H.
The five: pitchers Stephen Fife and Alex Wilson, third baseman Will Middlebrooks, and outfielder Chih-Hsien Chiang and Alex Hassan.
Fife, who will be making his second straight appearance, leads the Sea Dogs in wins (8-3 record, 3.28 ERA). Wilson (6-4) leads the Portland starters in ERA (2.82).
Middlebrooks, currently on the disabled list, is batting .294 with 8 HR and an .812 OPS. He is scheduled to be activated from the DL on Thursday.
Hassan leads the team in hitting (.323) and on-base percentage (.447), while Chiang leads in OPS (.973).
It will be a busy week for Chiang and Middlebrooks. Both are also scheduled to play in the Major League Baseball All-Star Futures Game on July 10 in Phoenix.
