According to media reports out of Baltimore, where the Red Sox are playing the Orioles, infielder Drew Sutton was optioned back to Pawtucket, making room for Carl Crawford to come off the DL.
With Sutton gone, Yamaico Navarro remains the only back-up infielder (as well as a right-handed option in the outfield). Navarro has been in only 8 games, and is batting .211 (4-for-19), but maybe the Red Sox want to see more of Navarro's promise in the big leagues.
In other Red Sox roster news, DH David Ortiz had his suspension reduced from 4 to 3 days, for charging the mound against the Orioles. He will begin serving the suspension tonight.
In Portland, where the Sea Dogs are getting ready to play the Binghamton Mets, outfielder Alex Hassan said he is day-to-day after aggravating a sore left foot on Sunday, while trying to make a catch against the center field wall.
The Sea Dogs also placed pitched Miguel Gonzalez (6.37 ERA) on the DL with forearm inflammation. Reliever Charle (no i) Rosario has been called up from Greenville.
Michael Lee, who was recently sent to the bullpen, will take Gonzalez's start on Tuesday.
Alex Wilson (8-4, 2.85) gets the start tonight. Follow @ClearTheBases.
