The Red Sox are doing what they are supposed to be doing against bad teams - win. Now, after sweeping the Mariners, Boston welcomes Kansas City (42-59) to town. Jon Lester (10-4) gets the start tonight.
The AL East standings:
New York 59-40 (3 back)
Tampa Bay 53-47 (9.5)

In the minors, the Ryan Lavarnway watchers may have been disappointed to see him go 0-for-3, dropping the average to .372. But he did have two walks (OBP now .449), including one key base-on-balls with two outs in the ninth inning.
With Pawtucket trailing by one, Lars Anderson followed Lavarnway with a two-run homer, for a 7-6 win over Buffalo ... Luis Exposito (the other catcher in Pawtucket) was 3-for-5 with his 6th home run.
In Double-A, Junichi Tazawa did not allow a hit until a solo home run in the fourth. He went 4 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 4 K. Reliever Charle Rosario has not been returned to Greenville. Maybe he will stick around. He pitched 3 innings: 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K.
