The Red Sox are finishing their season like they started it - badly. Boston is now 3-8 in its last 11 games.
The standings:
AL East
New York 87-56
Boston 85-59 (2.5 back)
Tampa Bay 79-64 (8)
Wild Card
Boston 85-59
Tampa Bay 79-64 (5.5 back)
LA Angels 79-65 (6)
New York's magic number to clinch the division: 17.
Boston's magic number to clinch the wild card: 14.
In these desperate times, Kyle Weiland (0-1, 6.75) makes his third start of the season.
In Triple-A, Pawtucket fell behind Lehigh Valley 2-0 in its International League series. Former Sea Dogs outfielder Brandon Moss continued his post-season success for Lehigh Valley, going 3-for-5, with his second home run in as many nights, and three RBI, including the walk-off RBI single in the 10th.
In the Double-A Texas League playoffs, former Sea Dogs right-hander Casey Kelly pitched six innings (6 H, 2 R, 4 BB, 2 K), getting a non-decision in the win.
