The Red Sox sent pitcher Stolmy Pimentel from major league spring training camp to the minors today, assigning him to the Portland Sea Dogs.
Pimentel, 22, will be hoping it goes better at Hadlock Field than last year.
In 2011, the young Pimentel began the season with the Sea Dogs and struggled (0-9, 9.12 ERA) before being sent down to Class A.
Pimentel, 6-foot-4, 225 pounds, has a lively fastball and lots of potential. The Red Sox are hoping he will show it this season.
Pimentel gets a mention in today's baseball column as an example of a prospect who will get several chances to succeed, as opposed to the "non-prospects" who don't.
