With Sunday night's game rained out, Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said Daniel Bard will be skipped in the rotation, and will be available in the bullpen.
The move was made to keep the other starters on schedule, including Jon Lester who will start Monday night in Minnesota.
Bard's move to the bullpen is temporary, Valentine said. Bard is scheduled to start Friday in Chicago.
"As the plan is now, he is our fifth starter," Valentine said.
As for other news, Kevin Youkilis would have played Sunday if there was a game. Youkilis came out of Saturday's game after being hit by a pitch on the thigh.
Valentine also said that newly-acquired Marlon Byrd was scheduled to start in center field Sunday. Byrd, acquired from the Cubs, has only three hits this season.
"He saved all his hits for us," Valentine quipped.
Outfielder Jason Repko (separated shoulder) is going on the disabled list. He will be replaced Monday by Lars Anderson from Pawtucket. Anderson, normally a first baseman, has been playing the outfield in Pawtucket. Valentine said he could be used in the outfield or as a left-handed pinch-hitter.
