At Fenway Park on Thursday, the Cleveland Indians had just come to town, and ex-Red Sox pitcher Justin Masterson was making his rounds hours before the game, saying hellos, telling stories.
(I was waiting for Masterson in the Indians dugout, and finally walked out to the bullpen, but others kept coming up to the social Masterson).
Daniel Bard was warming up nearby, in the right field outfield. Masterson walked over and gave him a hug.
Masterson: "When are you pitching again?"
Bard: "Sunday."
Masterson: "Me, too."
They smiled. They could be pals on Thursday.
Today, they will be opponents (OK, they're still pals, but I don't think there will be any hugs between innings).
I finally talk to talk to Masterson. That quick interview is included in TODAY'S STORY on touted prospects that came through Portland and were eventually traded.
Hope you enjoy it.
And enjoy the game. I'll have some insights on twitter: ClearTheBases
