The Portland Sea Dogs were rained out Tuesday, delaying a roster move that is expected today. Reliever Marco Duarte, 25, arrived in Manchester Tuesday, ready to join the team from Salem.
Duarte, a right-hander obtained from the Colorado Rockies in a minor off-season deal, made nine appearances for Salem (1.06 ERA; 17 strikeouts/4 walks in 17 IP; .167 opponent's batting average).
The next Salem reliever on deck for a promotion is Michael Olmstead, another veteran (age 25), who was a minor league free agent. He recorded his 10th save Tuesday. He has a 1.06 ERA.
Salem outfielder Jackie Bradley upped his on-base percentage to .497 with three walks.
Pawtucket outfield Alex Hassan, who batted .291 in Portland last year, is still adjusting to Triple-A. He's batting .234, but hit his third home run on Tuesday.
Junichi Tazawa (0.95 ERA) blew the save for Pawtucket, but then vultured a win. He went 2 innings: 3 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 2 K ... Mark Melancon (0.60) continues to impress since his demotion: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 K.
Greenville third baseman Garin Cecchini finally appears healthy and ready to show what he can do, since being drafted in the fourth round in 2010 and given a $1.3-million signing bonus. Cecchini was recovering from a torn ACL when he was drafted and then broke his wrist after 32 games for Lowell last year.
In 40 games with Greenville, Cecchini is batting .308, with a .393 on-base percentage. He went 2-for-2 Tuesday, with three walks and his second home run.
The Red Sox and Daniel Bard go today at 12:30 p.m. in Baltimore ... the Sea Dogs have a doubleheader in Manchester, starting at 6 p.m.
