Clay Buchholz allowed 2 ER over 8 IP Friday to lead the Red Sox. His ERA over his last five games is 3.98 (4 good starts and 1 stinker). Nice improvement over a 9.09 ERA in his first six starts.
Outfielder Daniel Nava (.314) had four hits and raised his OPS to .987. Yeah, he's a keeper.
Another former Sea Dogs standout, Michael Bowden, was designated for assignment by the Cubs. He had a 7.45 ERA in 10 appearances.
The Sea Dogs were rained out but were still in the news. Veteran pitcher Billy Buckner was promoted to Triple-A Pawtucket. And Portland received left-handed prospect Drake Britton from Salem. Britton, 23, is on the 40-man roster. He had a 10.71 ERA in April, but was 2.10 in May.
Salem enjoyed a romp Friday. Outfielder Jackie Bradley (.374) was 2-for-4 with a walk (.493 OBP) ... fellow outfielder Brandon Jacobs (.301) was 2-for-5 with his second HR ... First baseman Travis Shaw (.342) was 2-for-4 ... third baseman Michael Almanzar (.297) was also 2-for-4.
Red Sox play at 1 p.m. today, with Felix Doubront (5-2, 3.86) on the mound.
