In previous weeks, I've been listing the Boston Red Sox in the Wild Card race, and even mentioning them in the American League East.
But we've added new "standings" for the end of the season: The race for the top draft pick in 2013. Boston may not make it to No. 1 - they are 18.5 games "behind" the Astros. But they have been moving up the board recently, and are tied for ninth with the Padres.
A seven-game losing streak will do that.
Meanwhile, there is a real race going on in the AL East. The Yankees may be beginning their own September collapse.
The Red Sox will play spoiler. They have six games left against each of the three contenders. The standings are below:
AL EAST
Yankees 76-58
Orioles 75-59 (1 back)
Rays 74-61 (2.5)
