Big games Friday night, with Tampa Bay beating the Yankees 6-4 to hang on to its hopes, while Oakland topped Baltimore 3-2.
And the Dodgers (75-70) beat St. Louis 8-5 to move a game within a NL Wild Card berth. Adrian Gonzalez had two doubles and two RBI. Nick Punto even contributed two hits.
Elsewhere Boston beat Toronto 8-5, while Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine called his group of players the "weakest roster" Boston has ever had in September.
