The New York Yankees averaged three runs a game in their doubleheader on Wednesday.
The Baltimore Orioles also scored three runs in their game.
So did the Boston Red Sox.
New York won both. Baltimore won.
The Red Sox lost 13-3.
Boston's first four pitchers and their lines:
Daisuke Matsuzaka: 3 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 1 BB, 2 K
Alfredo Aceves: 2 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 1 K
Daniel Bard: 1/3 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 0 K
Andrew Miller: 0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K
So, in 5 1/3 innings, Boston pitchers combined for 8 walks, an opponent's batting average of .448 and an ERA of 20.38.
Bard threw 16 pitches, only four of them strikes. Since he has returned from the minors, Bard has made five appearances: 3 1/3 IP, 8 H (3 HR), 9 R, 5 BB.
In a word, Yikes.
