The Portland Sea Dogs announced Wednesday that former Boston Red Sox outfielder Trot Nixon will be the featured guest for the annual Hot Stove Dinner and Silent Auction, Jan. 11 at the Sable Oaks Marriott in South Portland.
Tickets are $50 for the event, with proceeds going to the Maine Children's Cancer Program. Seating is limited to 300 and the event routinely sells out.
For more information, see the team's website, www.seadogs.com or call 879-9500.
Being invited as a featured guest to the Hot Stove Dinner does not always mean prosperous times ahead for the guest. Previous featured guests have included former Sea Dogs Justin Masterson and Jed Lowrie (both of whom have been traded by the Red Sox) and manager Bobby Valentine (who was recently fired by the Red Sox).
Nixon, however, has been retired since 2008, so he should be safe..
