Baseball fans looking a bargain would have hoped for temperatures in the negative numbers today.
The Portland Sea Dogs announced yesterday that they would sell tickets on Wednesday, based on the temperature at 9 a.m.
The temp was 41 degrees for Sea Dogs general admission tickets are $4.10 today. See the Sea Dogs website for details.
Meanwhile, Red Sox bullpen coach Gary Tuck abruptly resigned Tuesday. The Red Sox said it was for personal reasons, and now the team is quickly searching a replacement.
Among the internal candidates are:
Chad Epperson, currently the roving catcher instructor for the minor leagues. He will in for Tuck last year when Tuck took a brief leave of absence.
Rich Gedman, a former Red Sox catcher who is due to be the new Sea Dogs hitting coach this season (also gives me a chance to plug last Sunday's story on Gedman).
Bob Kipper, the Sea Dogs pitching coach who was Boston's bullpen coach in 2002.
Jason Varitek, the former Red Sox catcher who now is a special assistant to general manager Ben Cherington.
The bet here is Epperson, although Gedman is a possibility. Kipper has proved valuable in his role of tutoring young pitchers, and it is doubtful that Varitek wants to jump right back into the daily grind of a full major league season
