In the last blog, we “lamented” the great showing of Jackie Bradley Jr. in spring training so far, because it means he is less likely to come back to Double-A Portland to begin the 2013 season.
His performance Thursday - 3-for-5 - only cemented that idea.
John Lackey’s outing on Thursday may be a reflection of what we’re in for this season (i.e., one step forward and one step back). After needing only eight pitches for the first inning, Lackey labored in the second (35 pitches, allowing a three-run homer).
Of course, it is only spring training. But there are legitimate doubts about Lackey.
Former Sea Dogs outfielder David Murphy is in his final season with Texas before he is eligible for free agency (where has the time gone?). ESPN (and former Press Herald) writer Jerry Crasnick looks at Murphy’s situation in his blog.
Another former Sea Dogs player, reliever Blake Maxwell, was quite the character when he was in Portland. He not only entertained fans on the field, he was a hit in the clubhouse, especially with his guitar.
Check out his YouTube performance, along with Justin Zeller.
