KENNEBUNK — Greetings from the rest stop here on the Maine Turnpike. While the Sea Dogs are playing (see @TomChardPPH), I'm heading to Fenway Park for the Terry Francona-Fenway reunion party.
The Francona-managed Cleveland Indians are in town. Francona has said that, of course, there will be extra emotions when he comes into Fenway. But he needs to focus on the game. See the Cleveland Plain Dealer story.
Francona has the Indians in first place in the AL Central. But his team was swept by the Red Sox in Cleveland, and the Indians have not won a series in Fenway since 2005.
The pitching match-ups for this four-game series:
Tonight: Zach McAllister (3-3, 2.65) vs. Ryan Dempster (2-4, 4.27)
Friday: Justin Masterson (7-2, 2.83) vs. John Lackey (2-4, 3.31)
Saturday: Scott Kazmir (2-2, 6.35) vs. Jon Lester (6-1, 3.15)
Sunday: Corey Kluber (3-3, 5.19) vs. Felix Doubront (3-2, 5.61)
On Wednesday, the Sea Dogs won, although Matt Barnes (4.50 ERA) did not figure in the decision. He went 5 innings: 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K ... Pete Ruiz got the win in relief: 3 IP, 1 H, 3 K.
Of course, the story of Wednesday was catcher Christian Vazquez going 4-for-4 with two doubles and triple and home run. See today's story.
