Nice production out of the shortstop position Wednesday from two top Red Sox prospects.
Xander Bogaerts: 2-for-4 with three RBI (from a 3-run HR) for Pawtucket. He is now batting .297
Deven Marrero: 3-for-4 with three RBI for Portland. His two-day average in Double-A is .625.
Bogaerts has also been playing a little third base lately, in case Boston needs him there this season.
We take a look at Bogaerts and other former Sea Dogs in Triple-A in today's column.
Marrero is just beginning his time with Portland. Catcher Christian Vazquez is nearing the end of his Double-A duty. Vazquez (.282) went 2-for-6 Wednesday, in the Sea Dogs' 6-5 12-inning loss ... Chris Hernandez (2.25 ERA) went 5 1/3 innings: 8 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K.
In the majors, Boston lost in 10 innings. Jon Lester was not helped by his defense, but also needed 114 pitches to go 6 1/3 innings: 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K.
Jake Peavy (1-0, 6.00) has had one good start, one bad. No. 3 is tonight.
