Felix Doubront and Henry Owens: Two left-handed pitchers who can dominate - WHEN they are commanding their pitches.
They commanded on Tuesday.
Doubront (10-6, 3.74) against the Orioles: 6 2/3 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 7 K.
Owens (3-0, 1.09) in his 4th Double-A start: 6 2/3, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K.
Doubront is part of a Sox rotation carrying Boston toward the playoffs. Owens could well reach the majors sometime next year.
Doubront got 13 runs of support, led by Shane Victorino (2HR, 7 RBI), in a 13-2 win.
The Red Sox also announced a trade, sending pitcher Clayton Mortensen to Kansas City for outfielder Quintin Berry ... Berry, a light hitter, will be used primarily as a pinch-runner, a role that can be crucial (see 2004, Dave Roberts).
Angels beat the Rays 6-5. Yankees topped Toronto 7-1.
