The Boston Red Sox take today off and then head back to Fenway for three days of workouts, Tuesday through Thursday.

John Farrell, no doubt, will continue to prepare his team, like he has all season (see today's column).

Meanwhile, the Rays, Rangers and Indians figure out who is coming to Boston for the weekend.

If the Red Sox stated their preference (which they won't, of course), they would like to play the Indians.

While Cleveland has the best record among the three Wild Card hopefuls, the Indians 92-70 record is a result of beating up on the little guys, including a 17-2 record against the lowly Chicago White Sox.

Cleveland's record against teams with a losing record: 56-18.

Cleveland's record against teams with a winning record: 36-52 (including 1-6 vs. Boston).

Another reason to root for Cleveland: Seeing Terry Francona return to Fenway.

The Rays went 7-12 against Boston, but Tampa Bay finds a way to play the Red Sox tough, especially with the Rays pitching, ranked 5th in the AL with a 3.75 ERA (Boston is sixth at 3.79).

Texas may be the opponent Boston does not want to see. Boston went 2-4 against the Rangers and does not seem to play well in Arlington. Texas swept the Red Sox there in three games in May.

Plus, the Rangers' pitching is now a strength - ranking fourth in the AL (3.62).
