The Red Sox optioned four players to the minors today - catchers Dusty Brown and Gustavo Molina, and infielders Kevin Frandsen and Jorge Jimenez..
That puts the camp roster at 39. You can cross two pitchers off that list because they will not be starting the season on the major league roster - Daisuke Matsuzaka and Boof Bosner.
There was a question whether Bosner would be ready after straining a groin. He pitched in a simulated minor league game today (as did Dice-K) and was scheduled to pitch another minor league game here Saturday. In other words, Bosner is not joining the team in Saturday's Washington D.C. game and he won't be ready for the opening series.
Outfielder Jeremy Hermida, who tweaked a right hamstring Saturday, is still not ready to play. Manager Terry Francona initially said they hoped to get Hermida into a game on Tuesday, but he sounded less sure of that. "We'll monitor him."
Because of Hermida's questionable status, outfielder Josh Reddick remained on the major league spring training roster.
In other news, former Red Sox and Sea Dogs outfielder Brandon Moss was designated for assignment by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Moss, obtained in the Manny Ramirez-Jason Bay deal in 2008, batted only .236 for the Pirates last year and was 3-for-37 this spring.
Could Pawtucket use another outfielder?Tweet
