The Red Sox traded Sea Dogs left-hander Andrew Dobies to the Chicago White Sox for a player to be named later or cash.
Dobies, who turned 27 today, was a third-round draft pick in 2004 out of the University of Virginia. He first landed in Portland in 2006 as a starter and played a part in the Sea Dogs' championship run. Shoulder problems hampered his development and the Red Sox made him a reliever.
He made 32 appearances for the Sea Dogs last year (3.69) and three this season (1.80, with 8 strikeouts in 5 innings).
In other Red Sox news, outfielder Josh Reddick was promoted to Boston as expected. He replaces Michael Cameron (hernia) and will be in center tonight at Fenway.
Here are the lineups for Boston and Portland:
RED SOX: Scutaro SS; Drew RF; Pedroia 2B; Youkilis 1B; Martinez C; Ortiz DH; Beltre 3B; Hermida LF; Reddick CF; (Wakefield P).
SEA DOGS: Kalish CF; Lin DH; Spears 2B; Expostio C; Anderson 1B; Chang 3B; Iglesias SS; Chiang LF; Place RF; (Miller P)
Infielder Yamaico Navarro remains out with a sore wrist.
I will check in later.
